Release #14 2020
Hello, world! How’s everyone social distancing and isolation, or lockdown going? I’m still in this weird bubble in the land of false calm, watching the world gone messier everyday and waiting for the ticking time bomb here to explode.
So, here I am with two fantastic oneshots for all of you stuck at home or frontline.
A super rookie called ‘Sano Yuto’, who have been gaining mass popularity on twitter due to his monstrous drawing capability. A serialisation is just waiting to happen, and I can’t wait for what he will cook up. But before that, let’s get to the oneshots.
The first oneshot is set in something I’d say like a post apocalyptic-ish Utopian world called ‘Lawless Kid.’ This was featured in SQ RISE last year, in the same issue as another oneshot I’d translated called “Inochi wo Odoru” (remember that?!)
I file it under the “to be translated later” folder and forgotten about it for a while. And then earlier this year, he released another oneshot (the second one for this post) and I was like, “oh, I got this author’s stuff somewhere!”
And so, here we are. The artwork is really fantastic, as befitting monster rookie title, it looks so polished, it doesn’t look like a rookie work. Great stuff
Gokurakugai Sanbandori no Ken
The second Sano Yuto oneshot is called “Gokurakugai Sanbandori no Ken” (The Gokuraku District’s Third Avenue Incident). The styling and design of this oneshot is absolutely beautiful. Also, right off the bat, the first black and white page was a redraw nightmare. You probably wouldn’t even notice it, but enjoy the nice redraw, heh.
I like this one more than ‘Lawless Kid’, but of course, it’s two different feel to it. But the character designs, especially the female lead (seen above) is really fantastic. I love the way he draw her hair, the tattoos, it’s just beautiful. Butt kicking heroines always get a thumbs up from me!
I’m in a bit of a 90’s music bender for the past month or so
